The President of Uzbekistan approved measures to reduce water losses and prevent resource shortages

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On additional measures to reduce water losses during irrigation and prevent water resource shortages.”

The document sets itself the task of increasing the efficiency of water resource use and ensuring a stable water supply to irrigated lands.

As part of the decree, it is planned to reconstruct and concrete 389 kilometers of canals with the greatest water losses in the system of the Ministry of Water Resources.

It is expected that the implementation of these measures will annually save an average of 206 million cubic meters of water and 26 million kWh of electricity, as well as improve water supply for 158.4 thousand hectares of irrigated land.

In addition, the decree provides for the introduction of measures for the rational use of water resources in conditions of their scarcity.

Work on the repair and concreting of irrigation networks will be carried out on the principle of “one canal - one system”, with priority for areas already connected to previously concreted canals or where work has already begun.

The implementation of these measures is aimed at increasing the efficiency of irrigation systems and reducing water losses in agriculture.
