International Water Forum: Tashkent Water Week 2026
Forum Theme: "Technologies and Innovations in Water Management. Central Asia in the Global Water Cycle".Uzbekistan, located in a semi-arid region and dependent on the transboundary Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, is facing a severe water shortage. According to experts, by 2030 the deficit could reach 15 billion m³. Climate change, economic growth, and the increasing needs of the population are intensifying these challenges and require comprehensive solutions.
In response, the country is actively implementing measures to ensure the efficient use of resources: modernizing water supply and irrigation infrastructure, developing water treatment technologies, reducing water losses, and carrying out international projects to increase agricultural productivity.
The “New Uzbekistan” Strategy (2022–2026) provides for:
- saving at least 7 billion m³ of water;
- reducing energy consumption in water facilities;
- introducing public-private partnership mechanisms in sector management.
The National Program 2025–2028 includes:
- rehabilitation of 2,551 km of irrigation networks;
- implementation of water-saving technologies on 1.4 million ha of land;
- automation of 18,755 hydrotechnical facilities;
- reducing water losses by 10 billion m³ by 2025.
These large-scale initiatives emphasize the significance of Tashkent Water Week as a major international platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of the country’s water policy.
